the dilemma

Often, actions that are politically feasible won't help, and actions that would help are too unpopular to be politically feasible.

So in order to get anywhere, politicians have practice strategic hypocrisy: promise a popular policy and then implement the unpopular one. It's like putting pet medicine in a piece of cheese to get a dog to swallow it.

As a public service, below are some of my suggestions on how to sell necessary but unpopular policies.

Measure: repeal the minimum wage
Slogan: Maximizing Employment Act

Measure: school vouchers
Slogan: Helping Our Teachers Act

Measure: abolish the income tax
Slogan: Fairness for Working Families Act

The magic words are: children, families, working, freedom, teachers, defense, security, fair, smart, care

Measure: cut military spending 90%
Slogan: Smart Defense and Security Act
