The cover of the September 1957 issue of Venture Science Fiction, in which Sturgeon first published "90% of everything is crud." Sturgeon's law (or Sturgeon's revelation) is an adage stating "ninety percent of everything is crap". It was coined by Theodore Sturgeon, an American science fiction author and critic, and was inspired by his observation that, while science fiction was often derided for its low quality by critics, most work in other fields was low-quality too, and so science fiction was no different.

Before AI, there was pulp fiction, and before that there were penny dreadfuls. It's a similar story with music: good songs seem more common in past decades because the unpopular songs of the era did not get replayed and were mostly forgotten.
From my experience doing open mic comedy for a few years, I can say that at least 90% of comedians and jokes are not funny, at least not consistently. Comedy is hard. Tens of thousands of movies have been made, but there can't be more than a few hundred that will withstand the test of time.
So let us boldly swim through the sea of AI slop that has become part of our brave new world. Intriguing creatures may dwell in it.
