What chemical is between glutaraldehyde and MTBE?

Both molecules have 5 carbon atoms and only contain the elements C, H, and O. Turning one of the aldehyde groups in glutaraldehyde into an OH group would give a molecule with 9 hydrogen atoms. Turning both into alcohol groups would give 10 hydrogen atoms.

I will note that the article incorrectly says the OH group is a carbonyl. Carbonyls have the form COOH.

Since MTBE is being phased out, perhaps a new fuel additive could be made by modifying glutaraldehyde.  I suspect it would need to be asymmetrical just as MTBE is.
